    Spanish bicycle market stabilises as e-bike adoption grows

    A total of 1,093,478 bicycles were sold in Spain in 2025, just 0.7% fewer than in 2024, according to data presented by industry association AMBE and Cofidis. Total bicycle sales in Spain generated €1.4 billion in 2025, a 9% increase compared to 2024. This growth was mainly driven by the mid-range and high-end segments, particularly e-bikes, which accounted for 21.5% of units sold and 35.2% of bicycle sales turnover.

    Bicycle production in Spain drops 8% in 2025

    The Spanish bicycle market is continuing to navigate a post-pandemic correction. As markets cool and consumer budgets tighten, Spain has again had to swallow a decrease in its bicycle production output. Spain closed 2025 with 286,100 units produced, at a production value of €233 million, according to official data published by the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

    WELS, Austria - The future of the last bicycle brand of Pierer Mobility has finally been clarified: the Austrians have sold their sports brand, Felt Bicycles, to its minority shareholders, Cesar Rojo and Florian Burguet. Pierer Mobility, which will soon be renamed Bajaj Mobility AG, is finally ending its unsuccessful involvement in the bicycle and e-bike sector.

    Spanish bicycle production on course for 5-year low despite slowing decline

    MADRID, Spain - Following a slow start to the year, bicycle production is set to decline in Spain in 2025. The country produced a total of almost 220,000 bicycles in the first nine months of 2025, a 10% drop compared to the same period last year. Totalling €179 million in value, this represents a considerable decline, according to official data published by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. The data for Q3, however, shows the most promising signs of a revival.

    E-bikes, data and subsidy give Spanish industry new impetus

    GIRONA, Spain - The Spanish bicycle industry is facing 2025 with moderate optimism. 38.9% of companies have reported increased turnover in the first half of the year, while only 25.9% reported declines, according to the results of AMBE's second bicycle sector barometer, presented at Sea Otter Europe. Additionally, a new €20 million government subsidy has been secured to boost e-bike sales in the country.

    Accell Group renews focus on Southern Europe with new MD and brand positioning

    GIRONA, Spain - Accell Group has appointed William Perrier as managing director for Southern Europe in a role that was cut a couple of years ago.     Orbea and Upway partner to boost circular economy of e-bikes

    PARIS, France - Upway, the online platform for reconditioned electric bikes, has launched a strategic partnership with the Spanish bike brand Orbea to give e-bikes a second life and support the sales of new e-bikes at the same time.     Mahle invests millions to enlarge e-bike R&D capabilities

    PALENCIA, Spain - To develop solutions that improve the efficiency and performance of e-bikes, Mahle SmartBike Systems has announced a new investment round of between €10 and €12 million annually in R&D.     Subscribers only Spain sees further 6.5% contraction in bicycle market turnover

    MADRID, Spain - The Spanish bicycle industry closed 2024 with a decrease in turnover for the third consecutive year. In line with neighbouring markets, the turnover in the Spanish cycling sector remains above pre-pandemic levels but contracted by 6.5% in 2024, to €2.3 billion including parts and accessories. Revenue from e-bike and bicycle sales make up 56% of this total value at €1.3 billion in 2024.

    MADRID, Spain - Following a dip in 2023 after two very successful years, bicycle production in Spain rebounded in 2024 with a 2.9% year-on-year increase in volume. Despite the value of the output dipping slightly, the Spanish industry is proving to remain robust compared to pre-pandemic levels.
