Waste Separation at PROVADA 2025

Published: 08 Jan 2026
Waste Separation at PROVADA 2025

At PROVADA, we have been working step by step for many years towards a more sustainable trade fair. Less waste, better waste separation, and together moving towards an ever greener edition.

PROVADA 2025 marked an important turning point for us: a new approach to waste separation that developed into a highly successful pilot. We introduced a new waste management plan in which waste separation was centrally organised. In close collaboration with RAI Amsterdam, CSU and Bnext, we elevated waste management to a higher level, with a strong focus on waste reduction, improved separation of waste streams, and a cleaner event overall.

Sustainability is about continuous improvement. We are pleased to take you along on the journey we have made over the past years towards a circular PROVADA.

2022 – Introduction of waste islands on the exhibition floor and the deployment of “waste heroes” for the collection of food waste and coffee grounds.

2023 – Increased focus on waste separation during the build-up and dismantling phases of the fair.

2024 – Emphasis on waste reduction and increasing participant engagement in waste separation.

2025 – The breakthrough: central coordination of waste collection and collective financing of waste separation.

Proud

We look back with great enthusiasm on the implementation of the waste plan during PROVADA 2025. This approach created space for clear walkways, clean work areas, clear agreements, and more efficient collection of waste streams.

The results show that the approach was effective: the share of separated waste streams increased significantly, including a 67% increase in paper and cardboard and a 144% increase in glass.

Although the total volume of waste increased slightly, more recyclable streams were collected and the exhibition floor remained almost continuously clean and well organised. This successful approach makes PROVADA 2025 an example of a circular event, a method that is now also being applied at other events.

What’s next?

We are proud of these results, and especially of everyone who contributed to them. In the coming years, we will continue to focus on waste reduction by making participants collectively responsible — reducing both the amount of waste and overall costs.

The success of this approach is an inspiration for the sector and demonstrates how collaboration and innovation contribute to more sustainable events.

Thank you for your commitment. Together, we continue to work towards an ever more sustainable PROVADA.

Foreign capital needed to meet housing construction targets

The fiscal threshold for foreign pension funds and insurers to invest in the Dutch housing market must be significantly lowered. That is the view of Mark Siezen, CEO of asset manager Bouwinvest. 'Foreign capital is absolutely essential to meet the enormous housing construction challenge. That requires a stable housing policy and fiscal climate. I am hopeful: the new minister recognises this and will act on it.'
