PROVADA develops an international programme for foreign investors and companies

PROVADA develops an international programme for foreign investors and companies

International capital is currently not finding its way to the Netherlands - and therefore to PROVADA - sufficiently. While the demand for new construction is substantial, an accumulation of fiscal and legal regulations has reduced the country's attractiveness for foreign investors. This calls for action as well as collaboration. PROVADA sees a clear opportunity here. As a collective, we can position the Netherlands and its real estate sectors more strongly towards international investors and companies. Together with investors, advisors and government bodies, we can once again put the Dutch real estate story convincingly on the international map.

Current developments underscore the urgency: today, Vastgoedmarkt highlights parliamentary questions on the financing of housing development and the reasons why foreign investors are staying away. It is precisely in this context that PROVADA is working on adding an international framework to the upcoming edition of the trade fair. Together with exhibitors and partners, we are developing a strong, content-driven day programme that we will promote internationally as a collective.

What makes PROVADA unique is its direct access to public officials and policymakers. For years, Dutch investors and real estate entrepreneurs have experienced the trade fair as an efficient platform where conversations with aldermen, the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning (VRO), and other public authorities happen naturally. This is a key strength that we now want to make more accessible to international parties as well.

Until now, there has been insufficient English-language and substantive programming to encourage an international audience to travel to the Netherlands specifically for PROVADA. That is about to change. On Thursday, we will offer an international programme for multiple target groups, featuring in-depth sessions as well as ample networking opportunities at the stands.

Thanks to the valuable input and collaboration with our exhibitors and partners, we are making a strong start with an international programme for investors and end users.

The first meetings with a number of our valued exhibitors have already taken place. Around the table, we expressed our shared ambition and further clarified the roadmap. In parallel, we are also in discussion with other partners to broaden this initiative further. We look forward to continuing the conversation with investors, government bodies and organisations such as Holland Metropole and INREV — all parties that recognise the importance of engaging foreign investors in Dutch real estate.

Foreign capital needed to meet housing construction targets

The fiscal threshold for foreign pension funds and insurers to invest in the Dutch housing market must be significantly lowered. That is the view of Mark Siezen, CEO of asset manager Bouwinvest. 'Foreign capital is absolutely essential to meet the enormous housing construction challenge. That requires a stable housing policy and fiscal climate. I am hopeful: the new minister recognises this and will act on it.'
